Sundown on Wednesday night marked the beginning of Rosh Hashonah, the first of the High Holidays. At the start of the New Year, we're supposed to reflect on how we acted in the last year and atone for our wrongdoings.
However, on Thursday morning, I could barely keep my eyes open, let alone reflect on anything. It was fitting that Rosh Hashonah came when it did, because this week, one major phase in my life came to an end.
WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
If you know me outside of this blog, then you're probably sick to death of hearing about this by now, and I apologize. But on Monday night, I went all the way home from Cornell to Nashville for one day only. Over the summer, I had helped out on the campaign for our former Law Director, Karl Dean, who was running for Mayor of Nashville. We had a credit on U.S. Air, so I used it to come home for the election. Long story short, we won the election, making my exhaustion on Wednesday and Thursday completely worth it.
(And by the way...I'm totally serious about what I said in my tip jar on that diary. Netroots Nation Nashville 2008. It works y'all!)
I've had a lot of other adventures since the last Rosh Hashonah. I went to London and spent my junior year there, making lots of great friends, learning all about European politics, and shopping as much as I could given a 2:1 dollar to pound exchange rate. I went to China with my family in December, and learned the joy of real, authentic dim sum. I turned 21 in March, and me and some of my friends in London went to Athens for the weekend. I spent my birthday hiking up the ruins, and my birthday night by drinking ouzo and storming around the Plaka insisting that I wouldn't go back to the hostel until I got some BAKLAVA, DAMMIT!
Also, I started a little blog (SILENCE ISN'T GOLDEN! SILENCE ISN'T GOLDEN! SILENCE ISN'T GOLDEN!) and I got to go to Chicago for Yearly Kos.
So I guess that my FP right now is that what I have to look forward to isn't as exciting. I'm now a senior, and will be spending the next few weeks filling out law school applications. I'll then spend the next three years getting my butt kicked in law school.
Oh well, maybe I'll manage to get a campaign job next year wherever I end up. You think anyone will be hiring next summer?
I guess we'll find out. L'shanah Tova y'all!
