No one thought it possible. Conventional wisdom said that New York, particularly this little pocket of New York, had settled on its pick. The frontrunner position was not up for grabs, particularly not from an untested, non-native New Yorker like Edwards.
But Edwards has come out of nowhere in upstate New York. He's played the game like a seasoned pro, and has clinched the frontrunner position. He's shown how wrong the "conventional wisdom" is. And most importantly, he's brought hope to the people of New York, who have been looking for an inspirational hero to lead them.
That's right...Buffalo Bills rookie QB Trent Edwards is dominating right now!
J.P. Losman thought he had the frontrunner position in the bag. But then, he had a knee injury, forcing him to sit out and proving that even those out-of-touch pundits at ESPN can't anticipate everything. Up until then, despite the fact that he was the starter, his numbers were lackluster, with QB ratings of only 57 and 77 in his first two games.
His injury provided the perfect opportunity for Edwards to step up, and boy did he ever! He put up a QB rating of 98.5 in last week's game against the Jets, with 234 yards passing--incredible numbers for a rookie. At halftime against the undefeated Dallas Cowboys, he's already thrown for 110 yards, with a rating of 89.9. He's fired up the whole team along the way, including the defense, who have already had four interceptions in the first half, including two returned for touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the fans in Buffalo are so excited and hopeful. They see Trent Edwards as the man who can bring them out of the 0-3 hole that Losman got them into.
And all this, without the support of the "experts" and the gasbag pundits. They only care about the trivial issues. How would they know how a player will truly do on the ground?
This is the future people. Edwards will be the one to lead us forward. Anyone who disagrees can't possibly be a true fan.
